The Cook County High School baseball team was up four runs in the seventh and last inning and couldn’t hold on, losing 7-5 to Northeast Range.
The game was played Friday, April 29, at home.
Cook County took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a fielder’s choice on a hard-hit ball by Jacob Dorr that brought in one run.
The Nighthawks came back to tie it up in the second, but the Vikings added one more run in the third, one in the fifth, and two runs in the sixth to go into the seventh inning, leading 5-1.
Jaco Dorr started on the mound for the Vikings, giving up two hits and one run while striking out seven in three and two-thirds innings. Isaac Sandstrom pitched two and one-third inning in relief. Isaac allowed five hits and gave up four runs while striking out five and walking two.
Cy Oberholtzer was credited with the loss. He pitched the seventh inning, relieving Sandstrom. Cy gave up one run on one hit while striking out one batter and walking one batter.
Elliot Leavens started for the Rangers, pitching five innings. He allowed five hits and three runs. Landen Houghton relieved Levens and was credited with the win. Landen pitched two innings, allowing two runs while striking out three.
Amos Falter had a great day at the plate, going three for four. Amos also tormented the Ranger’s defense, stealing three bases.
Hunter Gomez was two for two at the plate with one stolen base and two RBIs. Paul Dorr and Cy Oberholtzer also had one hit in the game. Paul also stole one base and had one RBI.
The stats for both teams were about even. The Vikings collected four walks, struck out eleven times, stole seven bases and made five errors.
The Rangers had similar totals, striking out 13 times, walking four times, stealing three bases and making four fielding errors.
The Rangers had one more hit than the Vikings, collecting eight hits to seven.
