After three baseball games were canceled because of snow and cold, the Vikings managed to squeeze a game in last Friday, April 22, playing at South Ridge High School in Culver.
The teams were knotted at one run each in the second inning, but South Ridge took a commanding lead with a big four-run third inning. South Ridge benefited from three walks and a double by A. Bennet to clear the bases in the third inning. A two-run fourth and four-run sixth gave the Panthers an 11-1 victory over the Vikings.
W. Olson was the winning pitcher for the Panthers. Olson gave up two hits and one run over five innings. He struck out ten Viking batters and didn’t give up a walk. Olson was relieved by Deloach, who came out of the bullpen to throw one inning of shutout inning of relief in the sixth and final inning.
Paul Dorr took the loss for the Vikings. Jacob Dorr started the game but only went two innings. The Vikings senior pitched two innings, giving up two hits and one run while striking out two. Jacob was relieved by his brother Paul, who allowed five hits, walked three, struck out four, and gave up six runs before he was relieved by Hunter Rex. Rex pitched the sixth inning. He allowed two hits, struck out two, walked five and allowed four runs.
The Vikings scored their lone run off an error in the second inning.
Paul Dorr and Kole Anderson each got a hit for the Vikings.
The Panthers collected nine hits, with Bennet going 4-for-4 with five RBIs.
The Vikings finished with three fielding errors while the Panthers committed one error.
Next are a slew of scheduled games, but it’s hard to know when the Vikings will next take the field because of the long reach of winter.
