The Vikings got off to a fast start against unbeaten fifth ranked in the state Mountain Iron-Buhl (MIB) last Thursday in the Vikings Homecoming game.

After receiving the kick-off and returning the ball to their 47-yard line, Viking quarterback Hunter Rex handed the ball off to Homecoming King Ryan Christian and the speedster bolted 57 yards for a touchdown. However, the two-point conversion attempt failed, and the Vikings led 6-0.

Following the touchdown, the Vikings kicked off and the MIB Rangers started on their 17-yard line. Wasting little time, the Rangers gobbled up yards on long runs and soon MIB quarterback Asher Zubich ran for a three-yard touchdown and the Rangers Damian Tapo converted the two-point run and the Rangers were up 8-6.

However, on the next play, the Vikings returned the following kick-off for a touchdown and then converted the two-point conversion to lead 14-8. At that point, it looked like the game would be close. Sadly, that wasn’t the case. Fans knew the 4-1 Vikings were facing a tough opponent because the team’s one loss was to Cherry, a 62-0 blowout and then Cherry lost by ten points to Mountain Iron-Buhl.

After the Vikings second touchdown the Rangers wasted little time in scoring. MIB took the kick-off to their 45-yard line and Ranger QB Asher Zubich connected on a 55-yard touchdown throw for a touchdown. The two-point conversion was good. MIB was up 16-14 and they would never look back.

From there on through the half it was all MIB. The Rangers defense caused a couple of interceptions and forced the Vikings to punt twice and held the Vikings scoreless through the half while they put up 36 more points to take a 52-14 lead into the break.

The Rangers took the opening kick-off in the third quarter and started on their 39-yard line. They methodically marched down the field and Asher Zubich ran nine yards to score with Damian Tapio running in the two-point conversion to give the MIB team a 60-14 lead.

The Vikings lost the ball on an interception on the next series but held MIB, taking over at the MIB 15-yard line. Showing a lot of fight, the Vikings moved the ball down the field and Hunter Rex threw a 26-yard strike to score the team’s last touchdown. The Vikings two-point try failed and the Vikings would lose 74-20 when MIB’s Colton Gallus rushed for the last MIB touchdown, a six-yard dash into the endzone.

With the loss the Vikings record is now 4-2 and MIB is now 6-0.
