The CCHS Vikings hosted the Floodwood Polar Bears on Tuesday, September 22, and for half of the first game the contest looked to be close. The Vikings led 12-9 in that first game before the Polar Bears shed their “bus rust” from the long drive to Cook County and started to turn up the pressure, taking the game 25-16.
Early In the second game the Vikings fell behind 12-4 before making a nice run. The Vikings scored the next five points and looked to be making a game of it before the Polar Bears surged ahead to take the contest 25-14. Game three wasn’t close as the Vikings fell 25-7.
Katie Peck ended with nine digs, four kills and two ace serves. Morgan Starkey had 15 digs and was perfect serving. Floodwood exceled at keeping the ball from hitting the floor. Four Polar Bears had more than 10 digs to go along with nine ace serves.
The Vikings had their moments when they set their offense, but the Polar Bear players were adept at sending ball over the net to an open spot or a place where it was hard to make a good bump to set up a play.
The Vikings are now 1-4 overall and 1-3 in conference play. Floodwood is now 5-1 and 4-1 in the conference.
Next up the Vikings will have played Moose Lake Willow River on September 24 and North Woods on September 28. Both of those games are at home. Varsity action starts at 6:30 p.m. Come out and cheer for your Vikings!
*Through four games Katie Peck had 19 kills and one block. Molly LaVigne had nine ace serves and 25 assists and Sadie Wilson has 29 digs.
