The Cook County High School girls’ volleyball team opened its 2021 season with a match against mighty Esko in Esko and fell in three straight games. All the three games ended with the Vikings falling 25-13, 25-13, 25-13.
The match was played August 26 and was a conference game. Esko is now 1-0 while the Vikings are 0-1 on the season.
Vikings versus the Procter Rails at home
Proctor came to Grand Marais on Tuesday, August 31 to play the Vikings in a non-conference volleyball game and the Vikings fell 3-0 in a very competitive match.
The Vikings led late in the first two games but couldn’t hold on, falling 25-23 and 25-19. The Vikings looked tired in the third game and lost 25-17.
Leading 16-14 in Game 1, the referee missed an obvious call on a ball touched by a Rails player that went out of bounds. Rather than leading 17-13, the score was 16-15 with Proctor serving. The Vikings were tied 20-20 but Proctor, behind their tall front line, surged ahead to take the first game and eventually the match. Both teams played well, and the Vikings made quite a few saves on hard hit balls and showed some power of their own behind the spiking of Morgan Starkey and Katie Peck. Viking starters Molly LaVigne, Charlet Waver, Sadie Wilson and Emmalli Myers all played well in the game against the Proctor Rails.
