There was some great volleyball action in the Pam Taylor gymnasium on October 18 when the Vikings hosted the Ely Timberwolves. And while the Vikings lost 3-1, the games were filled with a lot of great plays by both sides.

The game was stopped in the first game so that Morgan Starkey could be awarded a game ball for achieving 1,000 digs in her career. It was a great moment for her and the program.

After losing the first game 25-16 and down 20-15 in the second game, the Vikings rallied. With Morgan Starkey serving, the Vikings tied the score 20-20 and from there each team traded points until the Vikings finally prevailed 28-26.

Game three was pivotal. The Vikings were close, but Ely got just enough from their big hitters to push out to a 25-17 win. With that victory Ely would go on to take game four and the victory. But throughout, there was great floor play by the Vikings. Katie Peck ended her night with 10 kills and three ace blocks. Morgan Starkey finished with 28 digs and eight kills. Emmalli Myers had 15 set assists and 14 digs. Charlet Waver had a few big spikes at the net, RaeAnne Silence set the ball well from the backcourt, Sadie Wilson served well and played solidly all night, Molly LaVigne scrambled for every loose ball and even got in a spike. Coming off the bench were Makenzie Fairbanks, Kalina Dimitrovoa, Anna Helmerson and Allie Duclos.

At press time the Vikings were looking at having a home game against Cromwell on Wednesday, Oct. 20. But as head coach Marlene Zimmer said, “Things can change,” based on are games being played in the region. More next week.
