The 1-4 Viking boys’ basketball team played the 9-1 Barnum boys at home on Friday, January 10 and fell to the Bombers by a score of 71-36.
“The first five minutes of the game were probably the best that we have played on offense,” said Head Coach Pat Eliasen.
“We used a 2-1-2 spread offense and slowed down our play and worked the ball around the perimeter and took our time and worked the ball inside. Then we got in a hurry and the game got away from us,” Eliasen said.
For the game Lars Scannell scored 13 points, Brandon Curtis 9, Jamie Wick 8, Jonny Jacobsen 5, and Richie Furlong 1.
“Defensively, we played all right, but I was not happy with our rebounding. They sometimes got three or four chances to make a basket because they were out rebounding us so badly. We are going to work on that in practice. I am happy that we held them to 71 points. They are a quick team that passes the ball flawlessly and can score a lot of points in a hurry,” Eliasen said.
Next up for the Vikings is a road trip to Cromwell on Friday, January 17, with a home game against Ely the next day, January 18 at 1 p.m.
“We put in a new, simpler offense this week that I am excited about. We’re putting Brandon inside and Jonny outside. Jonny is a great passer and Brandon has a nice touch around the basket. We’re going to spread things out and try to get good looks inside,” said Coach Eliasen.
