Proctor pays a visit

The 2-0 Proctor Rails came to town on Monday, November 2, to face the 2-3 Vikings in a match-up of teams that were pretty even. That said, the Vikings were swept 3-0. However, all of the games were close.

Although the Vikings are 2-4, most of their games have been close. Above, Head Coach Marlene Zimmer works with her young charges on positioning during a recent practice. In the first game the two teams battled it out, exchanging point for point as players made great plays in the backcourt and fed their big hitters at the net. In the end Proctor won 25-23.

Proctor built a seven-point lead in the second game and was up 21-14 when Head Coach Marlene Zimmer called a time-out. Following the time- out, the Vikings scored the next three points, one on an ace by server Molly LaVigne, and one on a block at the net by Paisley Smith. However, each team traded points from there on out and Proctor won 25-20.

Game three featured big plays by both teams. The Vikings led 16-13 before Proctor started to feed their big hitter Payton Rodberg. A couple of big spikes by Rodberg and some good scrambling by the Rails brought the score to 20-18. The Vikings only managed one more point and they fell 25-19 in another fun game to watch.

Emmalli Meyers had 10 set assists while Morgan Starkey finished with 10 digs, six kills and was 13 of 13 while serving.

The Vikings had a home game on Thursday, November 5, against Moose Lake Willow River and a November 10 matchup against Northwoods. Those results will be in next week’s paper. Go Vikings!
