Vikings fall in doubleheader to Ely and International Falls



Coming off the heels of games against Northwoods (5-13) and Silver Bay (5-14) the boys baseball team traveled to Ely on Saturday (5-15) to play the Timberwolves and then faced International Falls in the second game of their doubleheader.

Ely jumped out to a five nothing lead against the Vikings in the first inning. The Vikings came back with two runs in the second and held Ely scoreless to make it close. However, Ely shut the Vikings out in the third while tacking on six runs, which made it 11-2. The Timberwolves would score one more run in the fourth and the Vikings would add one run in each of the last three innings, but the Timberwolves took the game 12-5.

Patrick Pierre was on the mound for the Vikings. Patrick gave up five runs on five hits in one inning.

Jacob Towley took the win for Ely. Jacob pitched five innings, giving up three runs on four hits and striking out two.

Tate Crawford, Riley Tarver, Ray Dresseley and Hunter Gomez all had hits for the Vikings.

Jacob Towley led Ely with three hits, the Timberwolves ended with 13 hits in the game.

Ely had two errors in the game and the Vikings one. The Vikings collected seven walks while Ely had five walks in the contest.

Vikings fall to International Falls

Once again, the Vikings fell behind early, 7-0, in the first inning, and couldn’t catch up in their doubleheader match against the International Falls Broncos.

The Broncos got off to the races on a sacrifice fly by Max Marcotte, an error, a double by Joe Talmage, a single by Riley Larson and error in the first inning.

Cook County mounted a rally in the second, scoring four runs off walks by Paul Dorr, Patrick Pierre and Jacob Dorr. The Broncos, however, countered with two runs of their own in the second. Three runs in the third by the Vikings were nullified by three runs the Broncos put up in the third. The Vikings didn’t score the rest of the game and fell 17-7.

Riley Larson took the win for the Broncos. Riley pitched one and two-thirds innings, giving up one hit and four runs while walking eight. He was relieved by Cody Joslyn.

Jacob Dorr took the loss. He gave up eight hits and nine runs in two innings, striking out one. Isaac Sandstrom relived Jacob, pitching three innings. Isaac gave up six hits, five. Walks and eight runs.

Amos Falter led the Vikings in hits. Amos was 2-for-3 at the plate. Other Vikings who got hits in the game were Patrick Pierre, Jacob Dorr, DJ Seidel, Riley Tarver and Paul Dorr.

The Vikings finished with four fielding errors to two for the Falls. Cook County batters walked eight times while the Falls batters received seven walks.
