The 7-1 Cook County High School Viking football team will square off against an opponent they know very well this Saturday, Oct. 27 when the North Woods Grizzlies come to visit.
North Woods beat the Silver Bay Mariners 20-6 on Tuesday, October 23 in the first round Nine-Man Section 7 playoff game. The game was played on the fourth-seeded Grizzlies’ home field against the fifth-seeded Mariners.
The top seeded Vikings received an opening round bye.
Earlier in the year the Vikings faced North Woods at home and won 38-26. Last year North Woods beat the Vikings twice, once in the regular season and then in the Section 7 championship game to see who would go to state.
Senior quarterback Chase Kleppe leads North Woods. Kleppe is fast on his feet and has a great arm. He is also a hard-hitting linebacker.
The Vikings are led by a strong group of seniors who play multiple positions (if needed) on both offense and defense. They are Josh Prom (QB, LB); Ethan Sporn (HB, LB); Andrew Miller (TE, LB); Dillon Sjogren (FB, LB); Joe Deschampe (OG, DT); Connor Somnis (WR, DB); Jack Haussner (WR, DB); Levi Sheils (WR, DB); Cameron Roy (OL, DL); and Tristen Bockovich (WR, S).
The game against North Woods starts at 1 p.m. on Lyle Anderson field. Come out and cheer for your Vikings!!!
