The Viking boys’ basketball team has had its second best season ever, going into play-offs with a 19-2 win-loss record.
All of those wins and fine play were noticed by Polar League coaches who voted two Viking seniors, Dylan Quaife and David Bergstrom, to the 2012 First Team Polar League All Conference team. They also named two Viking juniors, Colin Everson and Kale Boomer, to the Honorable Mention team.
Having two players selected to the first team is a rare honor for the players, the program and the community.
Both Quaife and Bergstrom are near the top of the conference in several categories.
Quaife is fourth in conference scoring with a 16.8-point game average while Bergstrom is 10th with a 13.9-point-per-game average. The two are tied with 70.8 percent of their free throws scoring, good for 6th and 7th in the conference. Bergstrom is fourth in assists with 4.6 per game. He is also 14th in field goal percentage with 48.2 percent while Quaife is right behind with 47.8 of his shots scoring.
There are no statistics for rebounding, but Bergstrom is arguably the best rebounding guard in the conference and Quaife is one of the best big men at pulling down boards. Both do all of the little things right like setting picks and taking charges, switching off on defense and just generally playing high quality basketball as seamlessly as it can be played. Coaches noticed.
The Vikings are the only team with two first-team selections.
