Despite getting 29 points from Will Ramberg and 25 from Dyami Blackwell, the Vikings couldn’t keep pace with the high flying Wrenshall Wrens on Friday, January 26, and fell 77-86 in Wrenshall.
The Vikings trailed by 5 points, 40-45 at the half.
“I liked the effort against a very good Wrenshall team,” said head coach Mitch Dorr. “We have to work on backside help defense and some transition defense, but overall I liked the effort. We just need to keep improving and get our team to play offense and defense on the same night.”
Keeping up with a new trend this year, the Vikings scored 27 points from long range, making nine 3-point shots in the game. Pete Sutton, Blackwell and Jordan Porter each had three 3-point baskets in the contest.
Sophomore forward Jordan Porter finished his night with 12 points, Pete Sutton tallied 9 and freshman guard Trusen Gordon scored 2 points against the Wrens.
When it came to picking up rebounds Will Ramberg again led his teammates with 12 defensive and 3 offensive rebounds. Blackwell had 6 offensive boards and one offensive rebound and Jordan Porter finished with 3 defensive and 2 offensive boards.
Tyler Kelly led a balanced attack for the Wrenshall Wrens with 24 points.
Vikings beat Duluth Marshall
The Vikings added Duluth Marshall to their schedule late and played them at home on Tuesday, January 30, with the Vikings winning by a whisker, 62-60.
Once again Will Ramberg led the team in scoring with 23 points. Jordan Porter tallied 15 points, Pete Sutton 11, Dyami Blackwell 5, Trusen Gordon 5, and Adam Dorr netted 3 points.
“This is the first time we led the game from start to finish,” said head coach Mitch Dorr. “We were up ten early, but some sloppy play and the scrappyness of Duluth Marshall kept it close.”
The boys play the Barnum Bombers at Barnum on Feb. 2 and then take on the Chisholm Bluestreaks at home on Monday, Feb. 5 at 4:45 p.m. Come out and cheer for your Vikings!
