Vikings do well at the Section 7A track meet



The Vikings track team had a good showing at June 1, 2023, Section 7A championships held at the University of Minnesota Duluth track and field facility, and while no one qualified for the state meet, there were a bunch of personal records set, and some podium finishes.

Ryan Christiansen, a senior, placed fourth in the 100 meters with a PR of 11.60.

Keean Selin, a senior, placed fifth in the 1,600-meter run with a PT of 4:54.33.

Senior Tristan Surbaugh took ninth place in the 3,200-meter run finishing in 11:13.86.

Eighth-grader MaCoy Fairbanks ran a personal record 46 seconds in the 300-meter hurdles to place ninth.

The 4×100 meter relay team of Ben Rex, MaCoy Fairbanks, Kaleb Berka, and Ryan Christiansen placed seventh, crossing the line in 47.39.

In the 4×200 meter relay made up of MaCoy Fairbanks, Talon DeBoer, Ryan Christiansen, and Kaleb Berka, the Vikings placed sixth with a time of 1:39.69.

In the Men’s Varsity 4×800 meter relay, the Vikings placed seventh with a time of 9:42.29. Tristan Surbaugh, Brayden Schmidt, Chance Jacobsen, and Grant Oberg ran on the team.

Lexi Surbaugh was the lone Viking girl to qualify for the Section 7A championships. Lexi, a sophomore, placed eighth in the 1600-meter run just under six minutes in 5:59.56.
