Playing at home, the Cook County/Silverbay Legion baseball team beat Cherry 9-2 on Thursday, June 22.
The Vikings led 3-1 after the first inning and tacked on two more in the second, one in the fourth, and three in the fifth. Meanwhile Cherry had bookend runs, one in the first and one in the seventh, otherwise they were held scoreless.
Jake Stadler took the win on the mound for the Vikings. Jake gave up four hits, two runs, one walk and struck out 11 in 6.1 innings. Ethan Tate closed the last two-thirds of an inning and allowed one hit.
Stadler also led the team in hitting. Jake was three for four with two RBIs at the plate. C. Pederson and Jake Mixdorf were the only other Vikings to get hits in the game. That said, J Shannon walked four times in his four plate appearances and scored three runs. The Vikings were patient at the plate and received 11 walks in the game.
Cherry recorded four errors while the Vikings had two.
Jr Legion CC/SB team takes victory over Chisholm
This game came down to the wire.
The game was played here on Thursday, June 22.
The CC/SB Jr. Legion team led 1-0 after one with neither team scoring in the second. Chisholm scored two in the third to briefly take the lead, but the Vikings tied it up with one of their own in the bottom of the inning.
Over the next three innings the score would stay 2-2, which set up a dramatic seventh inning.
In the top half of the seventh Chisholm got the go-ahead run but the Vikings took the lead— and the game—by scoring two of their own to win 4-3.
Amos Falter started on the mound and didn’t get the win, but he pitched five strong innings. Amos gave up two runs, two hits, walked six and struck out 11. Ethan Tate took the win in relief. Ethan came in the last two innings and allowed one runs while giving up two hits, walking two and striking out three.
Amos Falter was two for three at the plate with one RBI and he was walked. Hunter Gomez was two for three with an RBI and Landon Sheils, Jake Mixdorf, and C Pederson each had one hit in the game.
The Vikings didn’t commit any errors while Chisholm had one.
