The Cook County High School boys and girls track teams traveled to Two Harbors on April 25 to compete in the Two Harbors Invite.
Girls
Brianna Monson placed 16th in the 100-meter dash with a time of 14.71. Kalina Dimitrova finished 29th with a time of 16.08, while Siena Woerheide finished 33rd in 16.32.
Once again, Monson led Viking sprinters with a time of 30.78 in the 200-meter dash, an excellent time for an eighth-grader. Zoe Kacures placed 31st with a time of 35.53, and Elizabeth Larsen crossed the finish line in 39.02 to take 34th.
Ninth grader Emma Crook led the Vikings in the 800-meter run. Emma placed 16th with a time of 3:12.30. Kyla Knapper was right behind Emma in 17th place with a time of 3:13.06. Anni Dix (8th grade) placed 20th in 3:17.4.
Seventh grader Hiver Moody just got by Genevieve Silence in the 1600-meter run. Hiver placed 12th with a time of 6:47.43, and Genevieve, a junior, ran 6:47.71. Eighth-grader Sophia Lindstrom placed 17th with a time of 7:19.52.
The 4×200 relay team of Siena Woerheide, Grace Blomberg, Anni Dix, and Kyla Knapper placed 12th with a time of 2:22.60.
The 4×400 meter team of Brianna Monson, Siena Woerheide, Ani Dix, and Hiver Moody ran 5:22.76 to finish ninth.
Cook County placed fifth in the 4×800 relay with a time of 12:14.43. The relay runners were Lexi Surbaugh, Genevieve Silence, Kyla Knapper, and Emma Crook.
Kalina Dimitrova threw the discus 71 feet 8 inches to take eighth place. Grace Blomberg finished in 30th with a toss of 36 feet 2 inches.
Kalina Dimitrova led the Vikings in the shot put with a put of 24 feet 6.5 inches to place ninth. Zoe Kacures placed tenth with a put of 24 feet 3 inches, and Grace Blomberg finished 32nd with a throw of 16 feet 8 inches.
Boys
For the boys, Ryan Christiansen placed fifth in the 200-meter run with a time of 24.54. MaCoy Fairbanks placed 14th with a time of 26.49, with Talon DeBoer not far behind in 19th with a clocking of 26.87.
MaCoy Fairbanks (8th grade) was the top 400-meter runner posting a time of 57.87 to take seventh place. Ben Rex finished tenth with a time of 59.06. Finn Taylor ran 63.68 to take 19th.
Grant Oberg was the first Viking across the line in the 800-meter run. Grant ran 2:28.31 to place 17th. General Higgins ran 2:41.57 to take 21st, and Ero Moody finished in 2:54.18 to take 25th.
Tristan Surbaugh placed seventh in the 1600- meter (mile) run with a time of 5:23.32. Seventh grader Chance Jacobsen placed 20th by breaking six minutes by a kitten’s whisker! Chance ran 5:59.13. of 5:59.13. Andrew Hallberg finished in 25th place time of 6:12.74.
Keean Selin led the Vikings in the 3200-meter (two-mile) run. Keean placed ninth with a time of 11:09.6. Brayden Schmidt was 12th in 11:38.98, and Adam Oberg placed 17th in 12:44.87.
The boy’s 4×100 meter relay team of Rylan Brown, Lucas Hackett, Grand Oberholtzer, and Gary Thompson placed 10th.
In the 4×200 meter relay, the Vikings placed third with a time of 1:42.63. That team comprised Ryan Christiansen, Tanner DeBoer, MaCoy Fairbanks, and Ben Rex.
The 4×400 meter relay team placed 12th with a time of 4:50.36. The relay members were Haddon Taylor, Sidney Litterst, Alex Teeter, and General Higgins.
Taking ninth place in the 4×800 meter relay was Tristan Surbaugh, Grant Oberg, Garrett Plummer, and Finn Taylor.
Calvin Battees placed tenth in the discussion with a throw of 90 feet 6 inches. Arlo Christensen finished 14th with a throw of 86 feet 9.5 inches. Niko Battees placed 27th with a toss of 66 feet 1 inch.
Rylan Brown finished 10th place in the long jump with a leap of 15 feet 4 inches, and Grant Oberg jumped 13 feet 2 inches to place 22nd.
Calvin Battees took 14th place with a shot put of 33 feet 7 inches. Arlo Christensen finished 18th with a put of 31 feet 6.5 inches, and Ben Rex placed 23rd with a throw of 29 feet 7 inches.
