Vikings bow out of the playoffs



The Vikings baseball season ended with a 6-4 loss to their Northshore rival Silver Bay Mariners. The game was played on Thursday, June 1st in Cherry.

Silver Bay took a 2-1 lead in the first, neither team scored in the second. The Mariners would tack on one more run in the third and two in the fourth while holding the Vikings scoreless.

The Vikings pushed two runs across the plate in the fifth to make the score 5-3, but the Vikings could only add one more run in the seventh while the Mariners scored their last run in the sixth to win 6-4.

J Shannon led the team at bat by going two for three with one walk. J had one RBI. The following Vikings each had one hit, Kole Anderson, Hunter Rex, Amos Falter, and Oscar Mielke.

Hunter Gomes started on the mound. He pitched three innings allowing one hit and four runs. He gave up seven walks while striking out six. Benelli Myers three innings in relief. He gave up two runs off six hits. Benelli had one walk and two strikeouts.

Jacob Carpenter got the win for the Mariners. He three 6.1 innings allowing six hits, four runs, two walks and struck out 13. Carpenter also led Silver Bay with two hits and a walk in three at bats.

The Vikings finished with three errors to four for the Mariners.

Silver Bay beat Barnum in the second game to move to the semifinals on Tuesday, June 5. Because Silver Bay advanced in the playoffs it will delay the start of Junior and Senior Legion ball until the following week. During the summer the Mariners and Vikings play as one team.

The season ended with the Vikings recording six wins and 14 losses in a season compacted by bad weather.
