Winless Silver Bay gave a somewhat lethargic Cook County High School volleyball team all it could handle last Thursday, October 10. It appeared that the Vikings were still tired from their hard fought win over Barnum two days earlier and to be fair, Silver Bay’s young squad has been improving all season, even if it is not showing in the win column yet.
The Vikings fell behind early in the first game, but came back and tied the score at 22 before falling 25-23. The Vikings lost five points in the first game because they were in the net or over the net, and they also had trouble with the serve of Silver Bay’s Ally Kloster, one of the few players who uses a jump serve in the conference.
Game two was quick, as the Vikings got out of the gate early behind some great serving by Maddy Roy, Sarah Deschampe and Linden Sutton. The Vikings won easily 25-10. But game three was another exciting game, with the Vikings holding on to win a nail biter, 26-24.
That Viking victory seemed to take the wind from the sails of the Mariners, and the Vikings took the fourth game 25-17, closing out the match 3 games to 1. Jamie Sjogren had several nice kills in that game while Breanna Peterson and Jessica Berg- Collman served well.
Leading the Vikings was Jessica Berg- Collman with 6 kills and 16 set assists. Jamie Sjogren ended with 6 kills and Maddy Roy finished with 14 set assists and 6 AS. Linden Sutton filled up the stat sheet with 9 kills, 7 SB, 15 digs and 7 AS. Sydney Topp who finished with 11 kills and Brooke McMillian who finished with 18 set assists led Silver Bay.
