It’s been a nice start to the Vikings’ volleyball season, with the Vikings beating the Marshall Hilltoppers 3 games to 1 at Marshall on Thursday, August 28, 2014 to push their record to 2-0.
The Vikings won the first game 25-19, lost the second game 21-25, then rebounded to take game three 25-18 and game four 25-15.
Linden Sutton led the way, finishing with 12 kills, 3 ace serves and 13 digs while her little sister Meredith ended her night with 11 kills and 13 digs.
Jamie Sjogren had an excellent game, garnering 5 kills, 4 ace serves and 17 digs while Lily Gruber- Schulz had 4 kills and 3 ace serves.
While the front line pounded the ball, someone had to get it to them. Leading the charge from the back line was Maddy Roy, who finished with an amazing 27 set assists.
Head Coach Pam Taylor was pleased with the way her team played, but noted that Marshall only had two top tier players. “Once the girls figured out to keep the ball away from them, the games got much easier,” Taylor said.
Next up for the Vikings is an away game at Two Harbors Thursday, September 4. The Vikings play Wrenshall at home on Tuesday, September 9. Junior high and junior varsity action starts at 5:15 p.m. while the varsity takes the floor at 6:30 p.m.
