Viking track teams compete in the Matt Kero Memorial Invitational



The Vikings boys and girls track teams traveled to Duluth Denfeld to participate in the Matt Kero Memorial Track meet held on Friday, May 12, and while points were hard to come by, some new personal bests were achieved.

Girls

Lexi Surbaugh ran a PR of 5:58.99 in the 1,600 meters to take 10th in a loaded field that saw her Two Harbors cross-country teammate Lamar Gordon win with a time of 5:20.64. Kyla Knapper and Sophia Lindstrom finished 25t hand 26th together in 6:55.70 and 6:55.89.

Brianna Monson ran a PR in the 100 meters finishing in 14.69 to place 24th. Kalina Dimitrova ran 15.64 (34th), and Sophia Sheehan 16.28 (38th). Sheehan ran a PR in the 200 meters with a time of 32.42 (28th), and Annabelle Silence also set a PR with a finish time of 32.88 (32nd), while Elizabeth Larsen ran a PR of 38.17 (36th) in the 200.

Alexis Plummer ran 1:14.24 (24th) in the 400 meters with her teammates MJ Wharton crossing in a PR of 1:17.23 (27th) and Elizabeth Larsen setting a PR of 1:24.34 (32nd) in the long dash.

Genevieve Silence ran a personal best in the 800 meters (14th), crossing the finish line in 2:46.05. Kyla Knapper (23rd) ran a PR of 3:00.58, and Anni Dix (27th) also ran a PR of 3:06.22.

Brianna Monson ran a personal best of 59.95 (17th) in the 300-meter hurdles.

The Vikings 4x 100-meter relay team of Annabelle Silence, Siena Woerheide, Kalina Dimitrova and Brianna Monson placed 15th with a time of 1:02.00.

In the 4×200 meter relay, the Vikings A team placed 16th with a finish time of 2:14.58. Ani Dix, Zoe Kacures, Sophia Sheehan, and Annabelle Silence ran on the relay. The Vikings 4×200 meter B-team placed 17rh in 2:16.69. Alexis Plummer, Grace Blomberg, Kalina Dimitrova, and Siena Woerheide ran on the B-team.

The Vikings 4×800 meter relay team of. Sophia Lindstrom, Anni Dix, Emma Crook, and MJ Wharton placed 10th at 12:38.96.

Zoe Kacures threw the shotput 23 feet 11 inches to place 17th. Grace Blomberg threw 19 feet 5 inches to take 29th place.

Kalina Dimitrova threw the discus 64 feet to take 18th, Zoe Kacures placed 23rd with a throw of 54 feet, and Grace Blomberg placed 30th with a PR throw of 42 feet 10 inches.

Boys

Head Coach April Wahlstrom saved her sprinters for the relay team in this big school track meet.

The Vikings 4×200 meter relay team of MaCoy Fairbanks, Talon DeBoer, Ryan Christiansen, and Kael Berka placed 4th in the 4×200 meter relay with a finish time of 1:40.90. Hastings A team placed first, and their B-team placed third in the 4×200 meter relay. Cook County finished one spot ahead of mighty Duluth East. The Vikings B-team ran 1:53.28 to place 15th. Eddie Larson, Gus Hahn, Finn Taylor, and General Higgins ran in that team.

The 4×100 meter relay team of Ben, Rex, MaCoy Fairbanks, Kaleb Berka, and Ryan Christiansen placed 7th in the 4×100 meter relay with a time of 48.46.

Finnley Taylor ran a PR of 13.20 in the 100 meters to place 25th. Rylan Brown (30th) also set a PR of 13.45, and Eddie Larson (35th) ran a PR of 14.17.

Ryan Christiansen placed 9th in the 200 meters with a time of 24.46. Ben Rex placed 19th with a personal best time of 25.89, and Finnley Taylor ran a PR of 27.24 to place 26th.

Ben Rex ran a personal best of 57.46 in the 400 meters to place 11th. Rylan Brown set a PR with a time of 1:01.49 to take 21st, and Eddie Larson placed 28th with a PR of 1:05.7.

Garrett Plummer ran a PR of 2:56.44 in the 800 meters to place 22nd.

Brayden Schmidt set a personal best of 5:13.14 in the 1,600-meter run to place 19th. Adam Oberg set a personal best of 5:47.53 to place 27th in a 1,600-meter run (mile).

Tristan Surbaugh set a personal best in the 3200-meter run in 11:11.83 to finish 9th place. Chance Jacobsen placed 14th with a PR of 11:42.74, and Haddon Taylor also set a personal best with a finish time of 12:32.89 to place 19th.

Gus Hahn ran a personal best of 20.62 in the 110-meter-high hurdles to pace 14th.

MaCoy Fairbanks placed 9th in the 300-meter hurdles with a personal best time of 47.96. Gus Han ran a PR of 51.49 to place 15th.

Talon DeBoer, Grant Oberg, Brayden Schmidt, and Kaleb Berka placed 11th in the 4×400 meter relay with a time of 4:08.7.

Keean Selin, Brayden Schmidt, Grant Oberg, and Tristan Surbaugh placed 9th in the 4×800 meter relay crossing the line in 9:58.49. The Cook County B-team of Adam Oberg, Garrett Plummer, Chance Jacobsen, and Haddon Taylor placed 13th with a time of 10:45.23.

Arlo Christensen set a PR when he threw the shotput 35 feet 11 inches to place 15th. Calvin Battee’s throw of 34 feet 3 inches was also a PR. Calvin placed 22nd.

Calvin Battees PR throw of 102 feet 4 inches placed 13th in the discus. Arlo Christensen also set a PR with a throw of 93 feet 1 inch to take 17th place. Niko Battees set a personal best with a throw of 74 feet 8 inches to place 32nd.

Rylan Brown placed 20th in the long jump with a leap of 14 feet 3.75 inches in the long jump to place 20th. Grand Oberg was one-quarter inch behind Brown to place 21st. And Eddie Larson placed 29th with a leap of 9 feet 1.75 inches.

Kaleb Berka placed 7th in the triple jump with a hop, step, and jump of 33 feet 11 inches. Rylan Brown had a PR leap of 31 feet 6 inches to finish 14th.
