Viking track and field fares well at Two Harbors

The Cook County High School boys’ and girls’ track team traveled to Two Harbors on Tuesday, April 22 to compete in the Two Harbors Invitational.

Eighth-grade distance standout Maya McHugh led the girls’ team with a 3rd place finish in the 3,200 meter run with a fine time of 13.27.

Seventh-grade sprint standout Sophie Eliasen finished 5th in the 200 meter run with an excellent time of 29.5 seconds. Right behind her was Molly Thomas in 6th place in 30 seconds flat and not far behind were teammates Anna Carman, 33 seconds, and Tarin Hanson, 34.1 seconds.

Eliasen and Anna Carman tied in the 100-meter dash with a time of 14.9. Julia Larsen finished in 16.41.

Three Vikings ran the 1600-meter

1-mile) run. Alyssa Martinson (6:46) led teammates Marin Hay (7:17) and Danielle Hanson (7:29) across the line. Marin Hay ran 3:04 for the 800- meter (1/2 mile) while Amelia Roth finished in 3:42.

The girls’ 4×800 meter relay team of Maya McHugh, Alyssa Martinson, Danielle Hanson and Matea Acero placed 4th with a time of 11:59.

 

 

Team 2 in the 4×800 meter relays was made up of Linnea Hennerickson, Julia Larsen, Amelia Roth and Lucy Callender. They finished with a time of 14:36.

Mel Stoddard ran 22.13 for the 110 high hurdles and long jumped 10 ft. 11 inches. Danielle Hanson and Morgan Weyrens-Welch threw the shot put and Lucy Callender threw the discus 46 ft. 10 inches.

The boys’ 4×800 meter relay team of Joey Chmelik, Will Seaton, Roman Schnobrich and Leif Anderson placed 3rd in a time of 10:09.

Jerod Spry ran 21.7 for the 110 high hurdles while Noah Warren 13.7) and Cy Fortunato (12.9) ran well in the 100 meters. Fortunato also led 3 teammates in the 200 meter run, finishing with a quick 26.8 seconds while not far behind were Noah Warren (28), Will Lamb (28.2) and Will Seaton (28.7).

Leif Anderson ran 5:37 in the 1600 meters while Chmelik ran 11:37 in the 3,200 meters. Roman Schnobrich crossed the line in 2:40 in the 800 meter run while Jack Viren was across the line in 2:54.

The boys’ mile relay team of Chmelik, Fortunato, Spry, and Seaton placed 5th with a time of 4:25.
