A young and inexperienced girls’ varsity tennis team traveled to Marshall School in Duluth to take on the Marshall and Aitkin girls’ tennis teams. The Viking girls’ tennis team has 13 girls on its roster, but only eight were able to travel to Duluth on Thursday, August 25. The girls’ varsity tennis team has eight new players and five returning players.

Of the eight players who traveled to Marshall, six were playing matches for the first time in their lives and the other two were second-year players, one playing singles for the first time. Coach Muus was very proud of the first year “rookies” who had the courage to take on the much more experienced opponents with less than two weeks of practice.

Without the Vikings’ top two players, everyone else had to move up and take on even tougher opponents than they normally would. Aitkin and Marshall also had tough teams with a lot of depth. The young Vikings gained some much needed matchplay experience and hope to continue improving a little bit more each day.
