The Cook County Viking girls’ varsity fell into a deep hole, down 15-0 after three innings, so deep that they couldn’t dig their way out in a home game against the South Ridge Panthers on Tuesday, April 27.
South Ridge scored two in the first, six in the second and seven runs in the third inning while holding the Vikings scoreless.
The Panthers put up four more runs in the fourth before the Vikings scored.
Viking bats came to life in the fourth inning as both Ali Duclos and Charlet Waver drove in runs to make the score 19-3, which meant the game would be called because of the ten-run rule that kicks in after four innings are played.
Katie Peck took the loss on the mound for the Vikings. Katie pitched three innings, giving up seven hits while striking out four and allowing 15 runs. Rachel Dorr relieved Katie, throwing one inning in the fourth.
Besides one hit by Ali Duclos and Charlet Waver, Anna Helmerson collected a hit for the Vikings. Waver also collected a walk in her two plate appearances and Morgan Starkey walked and scored a run. Kallie Anderson walked twice in the game.
South Ridge batters collected nine hits and were walked nine times. South Ridge batters got up to the plate 27 times while the Vikings only had 16 plate appearances.
