Coming off of a three-game winning streak, the last thing the Cook County High School girls’ basketball team wanted to do was cease playing games, but due to the COVID-19 domino affect, the Vikings had three games postponed, and only one of those will be rescheduled.

The Thursday, February 12 away game against Cromwell was canceled because of COVID- 19. Following that, the Vikings learned that two away games scheduled for February 16 against Esko and February 19 against Nashwauk-Keewatin, were also cancelled for the same reason.

When asked to comment, Mitch Dorr, the Vikings’ Athletic Director, explained, “When we played Floodwood on Monday, February 8, our kids that played in the game were in contact with another player that tested for COVID-19 on Wednesday. We were notified on Wednesday, February 10. So our varsity kids who played in that game have to quarantine for 14 days from Monday.

“The girls will be back in action on Tuesday, February 23, against Carlton.

“The Cromwell game will be made up. The games vs. Esko and Nashwauk have been cancelled.”

With that, the Vikings are doing their best to prepare to play the Carlton Bulldogs. Carlton will come to Grand Marais on February 23 to face the Vikings in what should be a good game. Unless, of course, there is another postponement because of the coronavirus.
