Junior running back Ethan Sporn rushed 16 times for 228 yards and scored four touchdowns to lead the Vikings to a 62-0 win in a road game played against Northeast Range on Friday, September 15.
Sporn also ran for four two-point conversions in the game.
So far the Vikings have held opponents to eight points over three games, and those eight points were made against backups late in the contest against the Silver Bay Mariners.
In the meantime, the Vikings’ offense has averaged about 65 points per game.
Sporn was named Offensive Player of the Game for his outstanding efforts.
Connor Somnis earned Defensive Player of the Game for recording 14 tackles from his linebacker position. Two of those tackles were for a loss, and he also had an interception.
Somnis also received the Big Hit of the Game.
“Connor gave us a big spark with some big hits on the kickoff team and defense,” said head coach Mitch Dorr. “He had a great overall game.”
Junior quarterback Josh Prom rushed 10 times for 62 yards. Prom scored two touchdowns and ran for two 2-point conversions.
Head coach Mitch Dorr said the backfield once again ran all night behind the blocking of senior offensive lineman Billy Hackett. On defense, Hackett had nine tackles.
Junior linebacker Dillon Sjogren also had another great game, recording nine tackles in the contest.
How did they score?
The Vikings scored four touchdowns in the first quarter, all by Sporn. Ethan ran the ball in from 5 yards with Prom rushing for the two-point conversion to start the point parade.
Next Sporn ran a punt 61 yards back for a TD. Andrew Miller caught the two-point conversion pass from Prom. Sporn ran 30 and then 40 yards for his next two touchdowns. He converted the two-points on both touchdowns on runs. The Vikings led 32-0 at the end of the first period of play.
Sporn crossed into the end zone twice in the second quarter, one from four yards out and one from two yards out. The Vikings scored both two-point conversions to expand their lead 48-0.
With the clock on run time, Prom ran for a two-yard TD in the third period, and Sporn carried the ball across the goal line for two points to make the score 56-0.
Sophomore quarterback Adam Dorr ran for a two-yard touchdown in the fourth period. The try for two points failed and the game ended 62-0.
The Vikings play Floodwood at home on Friday, September 29 and Ely comes to town on Friday, October 6. Both games start at 7 p.m. Come out and cheer on your Vikings!
