The CCHS boys’ basketball team ended its season one game short of playing in the section 7A championship game, playing Lake Christian Academy down to the wire.

Cook County ended its season with a 14-11 record and finished fourth in the Polar-Big standings, which was won by Barnum.

First year head coach Colin Everson and assistant coach Andy Feddema had the Vikings peaking at the right time. Down the stretch the Vikings pounded Mountain Iron-Buhl, beat Nashwauk- Kewatin, Floodwood (twice), and Mesabi East.

While the Vikings lose two seniors, Will Ramberg and Joe Deschampe, they have a lot coming back in seniors-to-be Pete Sutton, Jordan Porter, Ray Gordon, Keegan Morrison, and Adam Dorr, with “some younger guys that we are excited about,” said coach Everson. “I’m Looking forward to working with all the players in the K-12 program as there will be lots of opportunities this summer.”

As for losing his two seniors, Everson was reticent and succinct. “We are losing two seniors, Will Ramberg and Joe Deschampe. Both of these guys will be missed. It was a pleasure to get to know both of them and there are some big spots to fill for next year. We have quite a few returning guys and are excited to see how we can grow over the summer for next year.

“We had one player elected to All-Conference in Will, who made the first team. I was able to learn a lot from the guys this year and I’m already excited for what next year will bring and I have some ideas for this group.”
