Good defense kept the Vikings within shouting distance of the Carlton Bulldogs, but the inability to make shots cost the Vikings down the stretch and they fell 45-24 to the Bulldogs.

The game was played at home on Tuesday, February 23, in front of a few parents and relatives who wore facemasks and kept their distance from one another. The school district follows the COVID-19 protocols set up by the Minnesota High school sports league regulating how many fans can watch kids play.

Carlton had a couple of beefy 6’3” seniors who used their size advantage underneath to score some easy baskets against a younger, smaller Viking team. That said, the Vikings battled hard for rebounds and came down with plenty of boards, but the team as a whole couldn’t hit makeable shots.

Midway through the second half Paul Dorr hit back-to-back threes to pull the team within 12 points, but Carlton came right back to score the next seven points, and the game at that point was essentially out of reach for the Vikings.

In a mad fight for the ball, Jacob Dorr comes away with it as Tate Crawford (10) gets set to enter the scrum.

On the bright side, the kids hustled hard and played good defense all night.

Viking Head Coach Andy Feddema summed up the game nicely, “We played well defensively, but we just had a hard time scoring points tonight.”

Coming up, the Vikings faced Wrenshall at home this past Thursday at 6:30 p.m. and then they will play Silver Bay at home on Monday, March 1 at 4:45 p.m.
