The Barnum Bombers came to town last Friday night and quickly established themselves as the better team on this night, leading 35-10 at halftime.
“Tate Crawford played well, scoring nine points and grabbing seven rebounds,” said Head Coach Andy Feddema. “Paul Dorr added seven points, Jacob Dorr had five, and Derek Smith had four.”
Barnum used its patented trapping defense. When the Vikings would swing the ball to one side or another, the Bombers would trap the ball handler with two men and another player looking to steal an errant pass. The Vikings had a lot of trouble adjusting to this pressure and all too frequently turned the ball over to the opportunistic Barnum team.
On offense the Bombers used their typical offense to work their way to the basket for a lay-up. Most of the Barnum points came on baskets in close to the bucket.
That said the Vikings are young and getting better each game while learning new plays under their new Head Coach, Andy Feddema. Although the Vikings lost 65-25, they show improvement each week and once they learn their new system, they will be more competitive and pick up some wins along the way.
“I’m proud of how our kids are battling and not giving up, there’s no denying the effort they put forth,” Coach Feddema said.
With this loss the Vikings are now 1-3 on the year.
The Saturday game against Hill City was cancelled because of the extreme cold temperatures. No word on whether this game will be rescheduled or not.
Boys fall to Floodwood
A slow first half doomed the Vikings this past Monday as the boys fell to the Floodwood Polar Bears 59-42.
The game was played Monday, February 8 in Floodwood.
“We came out flat in the first half and had to pick up the intensity in the second half,” said Head Coach Andy Feddema. “I am proud of how we came out in the second half and played with much greater energy. We never gave up and pulled the game to within nine points in the second half.”
Tate Crawford had eight points and nine rebounds. Paul Dorr had 24 points. Jacob Dorr had six points. Derek Smith had four steals. Ethan Poulin had two points.
