In a harbinger of things to come, the Cook County High School Vikings fell behind 2-0 after the first inning.
After a scoreless second, the Vikings fell behind further in the third inning when the Panthers tacked on six more runs to take an 8-0 lead.
It wasn’t until the fifth inning that the Vikings scored one run. They added two in the sixth and two in the seventh, but it wasn’t enough to catch South Ridge, who used a four run sixth inning to salt the win away.
Kole Anderson took the loss for the Vikings. Kole pitched two and two-thirds innings, allowing eight runs on seven hits while striking out four and walking six. Kole was relieved by Isaac Sandstrom. Isaac pitched 4.1 innings, giving up up four runs on five hits while striking out one and not giving up a walk.
Jacob Dorr led the team in hits by going two for four from the plate. Patrick Pierre was one for two with an RBI. In his lone appearance at the plate Payton Morrison got a hit and an RBI. Kole Anderson was one for four with an RBI and Riley Tarver collected on hit in four plate appearances. Hunter Gomez walked twice.
South Ridge players didn’t commit any errors and once they were on the basepaths they got the green light to steal, racking up ten stolen bases.
Christian Pretaskey was the winning pitcher. Pretaskey didn’t give up a run, allowing one hit in four innings while striking out four and walking one batter.
South Ridge batters amassed 12 hits while scoring 12 runs. The usually sure-gloved Vikings committed four errors in the field.
