Viking boys 4-1 at Christmas break

With no games or tournaments over Christmas the Vikings boys’ basketball team is busy practicing on their vacation.

For the season the team is 4-1, with the one loss to 3A school Esko.

While Silver Bay’s hot shooting guard Luke Thun leads the conference in scoring with a 28-point game average, the Vikings have three kids in the top 20. Senior guard David Bergstrom is 4th in conference scoring with 15.8 points per game. Senior forward Dylan Quaife is 8th on the list with 13.2 points per game and junior guard Colin Everson is 16th with a 9-pointper game average.

Cook County leads the conference in assists with 74 over five games for a 14.8 game average while Silver Bay is second with 56 assists, or 14.6 per game.

Bergstrom is 3rd in conference play with 22 assists for a 4.4 average. Boomer is 6th with 16 assists, Quaife is 8th with 15 assists, and Everson is 10th with 12 assists.

Bergstrom is 4th in field goal percentage, averaging 48.6 percentage on 34 makes after 70 attempts. Quaife sits in 9th with 24 baskets on 56 attempts for 42.9 percent and Kale Boomer is 16th with 14 baskets off of 39 shots for a game average of 35.9 percent. Colin Everson is 20th in field goal percentage with 15 baskets off of 44 attempts for an average of 34.1 percent.

In a surprising statistical highlight, the Vikings lead the conference in rebounding with 175 boards over five games, even though no starter is taller than 6’2”.

Once again Bergstrom leads the Vikings with 45 rebounds; he averaged 9 per game and is 4th in the conference. Boomer is right behind in 5th place with 42 rebounds, or an 8.4 average. The shortest Viking, Mike Sjogren, is 8th with 39 rebounds for a 7.8 average. Dylan Quaife is 17th with 23 boards for a 4.6 game average.

Although he couldn’t be a nicer young man, David Bergstrom is nothing but a thief on the basketball court. He is second with 17 steals and averages 3.4 steals per game. Boomer is ranked 12 with 8 steals and Sjogren is 15 with 6 steals in the conference.

Dylan Quaife is second in free throws with a success rate of 81 percent on his tries. He is 17 of 21 while the leader, Justin Hall of Floodwood, is 9 of 11 for an 81.8 percentage rate. Grand Marais: Lovely Bergstrom is 5th with 66.7 percent traditional 3-bedroom,
