The Vikings played one of their best games of the season in the first round of the Section 7A basketball tournament, but fell to Northland Remer Eagles 67-61.

The Vikings led early, but were down by three points at the half.

“Defensively we struggled to contain their speedy guard, but we had our chances,” said head coach Mitch Dorr.

The March 6 game was close throughout, but the Vikings couldn’t quite close the gap.

“We had some costly turnovers in the second half that were more from being absent minded than being forced by Northland,” Coach Dorr said.

Northland advanced in the tournament, and played Lakeview Christian Academy at Proctor High School on March 8, with the winner moving on to play on Saturday at the University of Minnesota Duluth.

Sam O’Phelan led the Vikings with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Two sophomores, Will Ramberg and Dyami Blackwell each scored 15 points and Ramberg added 10 rebounds.

The young Vikings ended their season with three wins and 20 losses.
