Art ’Round Town, in collaboration with the Grand Marais City Council and the Cook County Community Foundation, is sponsoring a design contest for new banners for the downtown light posts – and residents will have a chance to vote for their favorite designs.
Ann Mershon explained that many artists have submitted designs, and four will be selected to be screen printed and hung on the light posts, adding yet another artistic flair to the community. “Help us choose the best designs to represent our community,” she said.
Designs will be on display in the upstairs of Betsy Bowen’s Studio, 301 First Ave. West, on Friday, June 10 from 5 to 7 p.m. Visitors to the art show of submitted designs are invited to vote on their favorites and enjoy wine and hors d’oeuvres. (Donations are requested at the door.) Voting will continue through the weekend, and the Art ’Round Town board will announce the winners on Monday, June 12.
Art ’Round Town is a nonprofit organization celebrating public art through chronicling its past and facilitating its creation and preservation.
