Victor Dane Roderick, 81, of International Falls, Minnesota, died from complications of Alzheimer’s disease at North Shore Health on Saturday, June 11, 2016 in Grand Marais with his loving daughter by his side.
Victor was born at home in Meding Township, Ray, Minnesota, on December 6, 1934. He was the fourth of 12 children and he was the jokester of the family. His parents were Mildred (Nelson) Roderick Thortsen and Sherman Roderick.
He married his childhood sweetheart Sharon Giauque on January 29, 1955 at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in International Falls.
As was common at the time, Victor completed eighth grade and went to work to support his family. However, his love of learning never stopped. He was employed at Boise Cascade, Insulate Division, as a forklift operator until the plant closed. He then worked for K-Mart in International Falls until his retirement in 1998.
He loved spending time with his family – hunting, fishing, gardening and any kind of berry picking.
Victor was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church and the Moose Lodge.
He is preceded by his wife of 48 years, Sharon; his parents; sister Annie Johnson; brothers George “Buddy” and Sherman (Rodney) Roderick.
He is survived by his daughter Cathy (Dennis) Terry, Grand Marais; sons Mark (Dawn) Roderick and John (Tammy) Roderick all of Coon Rapids, Minnesota; grandchildren Eric (Emily) Terry, Arizona; Katelyn (Christopher) Mickelson, California; Matthew, Naomi, Nichole, Luke and Timothy Roderick all of Coon Rapids; Michelle and Laura Larsen; great-grandchildren Zachary Eric, and Hailey Victoria, Arizona; Leighton Olivia, California; Leala Lynn, Coon Rapids; siblings Shirley Synkiew Peet, Maurice Roderick, Ruby Feister, James Roderick, Karen Haaland, Joyce Trichak, Jewell Albrecht and Wanda Thortsen; sisters-in-law Christine and Kathy Roderick, and Sandy Mindl of International Falls; many cousins, nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, July 9, 2016 at 1 p.m. at St. John’s Catholic Church, 10 East 5th Street, Grand Marais. Father Seamus Walsh, officiating. Interment will be in St. Thomas Catholic Cemetery at a later date.
