Velo the Lake 2012 – Ride Against Hunger

Northland food shelves will be bolstered this fall from the efforts of a Carlton, Minnesota man bicycling his way around Lake Superior. The bike ride is a benefit for Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank, and is called “Velo the Lake 2012 – Ride Against Hunger.”

Timothy Soden-Groves will attempt the 1,050 mile, 10½ day ride from September 13-23 with the hope of not only fulfilling a longtime dream of riding around the big lake, but of helping Second Harvest wage its fight against hunger in the process.

“September is Hunger Action Month, and I hope many others will come to my aid to help Second Harvest feed the hungry and raise awareness of hunger in our region,” says Soden-Groves. “It’s incredible what they can do with just a little support from us.” For example, a donation of $10 will provide 50 meals to the hungry.

Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank rescues food from national and regional sources and distributes it to over 120 charitable food programs throughout eight counties in northeastern Minnesota and northwestern Wisconsin. Annually, Second Harvest provides 3.6 million meals through local food shelves and other nonprofit feeding programs in the eight county region.
