Varsity tennis practices begin; first match set for Sept. 1

Any girls in grades 7-12 who are attending Cook County MS/HS or being home-schooled are invited to be a member of the first-year girls’ varsity tennis team this fall.

Practices and matches are being scheduled so they won’t conflict with other school sports, for those interested in participating in more than one sport.

Official practices began Aug. 16, and will be held the next couple of weeks. The first matches are scheduled for Sept. 1 at Duluth Central H.S. (noon vs. Duluth East H.S., and 2 p.m. vs. Duluth Denfeld/ Central H.S.)

Once school starts, practices will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Those girls participating in other sports can come when their other practices are done (5:30 p.m.). Coaches realize some participants will miss practices when they have volleyball games, or cross-country meets. The tennis association will be flexible in order to provide this opportunity to as many interested participants as possible.

The boys’ tennis team will be practicing and playing in the spring. John Muus will be the coach for both the boys’ and girls’ teams
