The Cook County High School varsity football team traveled to Northhome, Minnesota last Friday to play the Kelliher/Northome/Littlefork-Big Falls team and won 30-8, with three touchdowns coming through the air.
Sophomore quarterback Hunter Rex completed 11 of his 17 throws for 326 yards.
First quarter action saw the Vikings put six points on the board but miss their two-point conversion. The Vikings scored a touchdown in the second quarter and converted the two-point conversion to lead 14-0 at the half.
The Vikings kicked off to start the third quarter and held KNLBF on downs, taking over at KNLBF’s 45-yard line. With seven minutes to go in the quarter Hunter Rex connected on a 53-yard pass to Ryan Christiansen for a touchdown. Kole Anderson bulled his way in for the two-point conversion and the Vikings led 22-0.
After kicking off the Vikings saw KNLBF march from their 35 to the Vikings 37-yard-line where the Vikings forced a fumble and recovered. With one minute to go in the quarter Hunter Rex connected with Ray Dressely for a 57-yard touchdown. Kole Anderson once again ran in the two-point conversion and the Vikings led 30-0.
In the fourth quarter the teams traded punts a couple of times before, with four minutes to play, KNLBF rushed for a touchdown and converted the two-point try.
Kole Anderson rushed five times for 23 yards and one touchdown. Kole also carried for three two-point conversions following Vikings touchdowns. Rohan Rude had five carries for 23 yards, Ryan Christiansen ran four times for six yards, MaCoy Fairbanks carried four times for 27 yards, Ray Dressley rushed three times for 11 yards, Rayce Gibson had one carry for two yards, Jordan Backstrom ran twice for 25 yards and Hunter Rex ran three times for nine yards. The Vikings totaled 121 yards on the ground.
Ryan Christiansen led receivers with five catches for 169 yards and two touchdowns. Ray Dressely had two catches for 99 yards and one touchdown. Recko Helmerson caught two balls for 40 yards and Rayce Gibson had two catches for 18 yards.
On defense Kole Anderson led with 16 tackles. Ray Dressely had 13, Ryan Smith eight, Rohan Rude and Ben Rex seven, Ryan Christiansen six, Recko Helmerson four, Rayce Gibson four, Ryan Youngdahl three, Calvin Battees two, and MaCoy Fairbanks, Cade Smith, and Ethan Tate each had one tackle.
Ben Rex and Ryan Smith each had one quarterback sack. Rayce Gibson had the teams lone interception and Ryan Smith blocked a punt that was recovered by Recko Helmerson.
The Vikings record is now 3-1.
