Vannet and Deschampe move on to special election

The field has been winnowed from four to two in the race to see who will fill the remaining District 1 term of Cook County Commissioner Frank Moe who retired in December 2016, due to concerns about his health. Moe’s term would have been up in 2018.

Jim Vannet and Bobby Deschampe will go head to head in the special general election that will be held June 6.

Four people ran in the primary, with the top two vote-getters vying to fill the commissioner seat in June.

Vannet received 116 votes in the special primary election, which ended April 4. Deschampe garnered 109 votes while Ryan Bottger tallied 88 and Dave Keller picked up 34.

District 1 is made up of Grand Portage, Hovland precinct 2 and Colvill precinct 3. Deschampe was strongest in Grand Portage where he received 61 votes to Vannet’s 17. However, Vannet received 58 votes in Hovland and 41 in Colvill while Deshampe took in 27 and 21 votes in those precincts.

All told 347 votes were cast in the primary.
