On Sunday, May 1 the Cook County Highway Department announced it had closed a portion of UT 48 due to a culvert issue and issued an advisory for water running across CSAH 7.

By May 3 the highway department said a temporary repair had been made on UT 48 and that the road was safe for travel.

Receding waters allowed the department to remove the travel advisory for water flowing across CSAH 7.

The road was temporarily closed said Highway Maintenance Supervisor Josh Dix, “Out of an abundance of caution we are closing UT 48, east of the intersection with Bally Creek Road, between fire numbers 272 and 260. There is a culvert with the water running around it rather than through, and it is undermining the road.”

During the temporary closure everything from fire number 260 east was accessed from East 48, while fire number 272 was accessed from West 48. “We appreciate the public’s safety as we work to address quickly changing road conditions during this extraordinary spring thaw,” Dix said.
