Used ink cartridges could help school finances

School is in full swing and with all the activities and athletics also come questions about financing. Setting up a school trust fund is a great idea but really calls for larger amounts.

However, you can make a difference without hurting your pocketbook— with your used printer ink cartridges.

Do you use ink cartridges? Businesses probably a lot but even I use some. What do you do with them when empty? Do you send them back to the company in postage-paid bags? Or discard them some other way? If they aren’t being given to the school, you are passing up an opportunity to help school finances. Companies pay postage to have you send them back but they will also allow schools to purchase supplies with them, such as monitors, hardware devices or software.

It is amazing how it adds up with just a few people turning them in, but it could be much more. I think the main reason more people don’t participate is that it’s a bother trying to get them to the school and much easier to just drop them in the mail.

School Technical Coordinator John Jacobsen would like to see more participation. If we could get a list of people (to start with just in the Grand Marais area) who would be willing to collect and set aside printer cartridges for the school, Jacobsen would arrange with some group or person to make a monthly pick-up.

If you’d like to help out with this no hassle and no cost way to fund needed supplies for the school, give Nelda Westerlind a call at (218) 387-1437 to work out the details.
