Upcoming workshops at Higher Ed

Cook County Higher Education has several upcoming workshops that will be of interest to businesses, nonprofits, and the general public.

First on the docket is iPhones and iTunes. This short evening workshop will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 5 from 7 to 9 p.m. Don Bremer of the University of Minnesota Center for Economic Development will help you learn about both the hardware and software part of your iPhone. This class covers the different icons that you will see on the iPhone, different applications that are useful in everyday life, copy and paste on the iPhone, autocorrection options, dictation, how to transfer things from iTunes on the desktop to your phone, the creation of playlists, how to rip music from a CD and add it to the iPhone, and other tricks. Cost is $30; registration deadline Nov. 4.

The following day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Bremer will present a full day of Microsoft Access I and II.

With Access I, you will learn how to create databases, save to editing, format, create basic tables, forms, queries and reports to manage data and retrieve information quickly. With Access II, you will go beyond the basics of database management and learn how to import data from a spreadsheet, export a table from an existing database, and merge a table from a database into a document. This class also contains a one-hour introduction into creating queries (SQL) in the database. Each workshop costs $60, or $120 for the full day.

Higher Ed is exploring the possibility of offering Access III and IV on Dec. 18, and asks interested persons to let them know if this is something they would like to attend.

All of the workshops will be held at Cook County Higher Educations’ North Shore Campus at 300 W. 3rd St. in Grand Marais. Register online for the workshops at www.northshorecampus.org or call 218-387-3411.
