The doors are once again open to the public at the Hub, (Grand Marais Senior Center) after being closed because of the pandemic.
“We are open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday with an ever-growing list of programs and opportunities for the public to get involved in,” said Activities Director Chris Bautch.
Lunch is served at noon, with take-out and Meals on Wheels available, said Bautch.
Foot care is back, noted Chris. “Call for an appointment,” she added.
Foot Care is held the third Tuesday of the month and starts at 8 a.m.
“You must wear a mask to participate in the foot care clinic, advised Bautch, adding that other activities don’t require a mask but, she notes, if you haven’t been vaccinated, you should probably wear a mask.
Coming in August is Tai Chi and Chair Yoga classes. “These classes will be open to all ages but the focus of each is on seniors,” said Bautch.
Cards and Crafts is another fun activity that is being brought back. Bautch talked about the kiosks available for the pubic. “We were given some kiosks and we can help set them up. If you have private work, or need to deal with the Cook County court, you can use the kiosks for free.”
Bean bag baseball is coming August 11. Tech support will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday and Thursday, with a braille intern to assist site impaired folks.
Bridge is held every Wednesday from 12:30 to close. “We have a nice group of 10-14 who come in to play. If you don’t know how to play you can come and watch and learn the game,” she said.
Cribbage is held Thursday mornings at 10 a.m. and a card game called “500” will be played Friday afternoons. Both Cribbage and 500 need more players, Bautch said, adding she was open to changing the time and day of each if that would lend itself to more involvement by the public.
“We will add more activities as we can,” said Chris. “Stop by and say hello, see what’s here and join in.”
