Musicians have been creating a buzz at the North House Folk School in Grand Marais for a great cause since 2001. This year, the annual family-friendly event takes place Sept. 17-19 and includes over 12 nationally and internationally recognized performers including two concerts with NPR’s Mountain Stage Radio Show, local brewery tastings and a folk artisan market.
Top performers include Haley Bonar, John Mark Nelson, Charlie Parr, Don Henry and Jon Vezner.
Minnesota native Jon Vezner is founder and creator of the singer/songwriters event known as Unplugged. Vezner is a successful musician and won a Grammy in 1990 for “Best Country Song.” His songwriting has been picked up by some major country artists such as Martina McBride, John Mellencamp, Faith Hill, Clay Walker and Diamond Rio.
Also at the event, Minnesota breweries Fulton Beer and Voyageur Brewing will offer beer tastings; funds raised will go to help support the North House Folk School.
There will also be jam sessions to offer attendees an opportunity to join fellow musicians and create music together; a folk artisan market featuring 10 participants who will display their handwork as well as provide an opportunity for event attendees to try their hand at craft in mini courses and/or traditional craft coursework; and a “Points North” online auction with a cause featuring North Shore lodging deals, one-on-one tutorials with North House Folk School instructors and gift certificates for local businesses. All proceeds go to North House Folk School’s endowment fund and to fund campus improvements.
