Schroeder, April 1. A unique hotel is being proposed along the shore of Lake Superior at Taconite Harbor in Cook County. The long-deserted taconite loading dock may soon become the closest place to stay the shore when a hotel is built into the tall structure where ore boats once loaded. Hotel rooms will be built into the loading dock, with balconies looking down into the harbor.
Access to the hotel will also be unique, with guests arriving by railcars along the train tracks on top of the loading dock and descending to their rooms by elevator. Once in their rooms guests will have an unobstructed view of Lake Superior. With the harbor below them, they will be able to fish from their rooms. Guests could also dive from their rooms into the clean waters of Lake Superior for a swim.
Details are being completed, says Abel Gull, spokesperson for the developer Pond –C, but this will be the nearest a person could stay by the Lake along the North Shore without staying under water.
