On June 13, 2016 at approximately 10:45 p.m. the Cook County Sheriff ’s Office and EMS responded to the Lutsen Resort employee housing building for a medical emergency. The report was that a person was barely breathing, unconscious and very unresponsive. It was learned that alcohol and fentanyl were consumed by the person and that was the reason for urgent medical attention.
After this call was cleared there was another call to the apartments above the Lutsen Liquor store for another medical emergency involving alcohol and drugs. This incident is linked to the employee housing incident.
The victims are identified as Stuart James Benoit, 22, and Nicholas Michael Jose, 26, from Lutsen.
Both men were transported to the hospital. They were treated and released.
The matter is still under investigation.
Fentanyl is a powerful synthetic opioid analgesic that is similar to morphine but is 50 to 100 times more potent. Street names for fentanyl or for fentanyl-laced heroin include Apache, China Girl, China White, Dance Fever, Friend, Goodfella, Jackpot, Murder 8, TNT, and Tango and Cash.
