Carpenter Broadcasting, LLC has bought 92.7 WZBY in Grand Portage and is in the process of buying AAA “95.3 The Otter” WFNX in Grand Marais.
The news was announced on RadioINSIGHT on April 8, in an online article written by Lance Vendeta.
Carpenter Broadcasting holds a construction permit for a third radio station for 96.9 in Grand Marais.
Multi-Cultural Diversity Radio received $3,000 from Carpenter Broadcasting for 92.7 WZBY in Grand Portage. WZBY is licensed for 100 Watts through the FCC, the lowest wattage for a full-power FM station, but has the potential to be upgraded to Class C, which would allow it to expand to 100W/600m, which could reach Thunder Bay if a tower was available to carry the signal.
Dennis Carpenter and his son Lucas own Carpenter Broadcasting. In addition, the family owns about ten radio stations in central Minnesota, including “Bob FM” Classic Country, which is broadcast in the Twin Cities metro area.
Dennis Carpenter has over 30 years of experience in radio, either managing or owning stations. Asked to comment about the recent acquisitions and start-up in Cook County, Dennis didn’t get back to us by press time. Hopefully, we will have more to report in the near future.
