The Cook County High School track team has been busy as of late, attending several track meets.
On May 3rd, the Vikings participated in the Two Harbors Invite #2. The CCHS boys’ team finished seventh out of ten teams. The girls’ team placed eighth in the ten-team field.
Rock Ridge won both the boys’ and girls’ titles. Rock Ridge scored 184 points to 92 for runner-up Mesabi East in the boys’ competition. Two Harbors was narrowly beaten for the girls’ team title. Rock Ridge won 137.5 to 135.
Boys’ Results
Ryan Christiansen took fourth place in both the 100- and 200-meter dashes. Also running the 100 were Ben Rex, 11th; MaCoy Fairbanks, 17th; Finn Taylor, 19th; and Graham Oberholtzer, 32nd.
Ryan clocked 12.27 for the 100 meters and 24.63 for 200 meters. Also running the 200 meters for the Vikings was MaCoy Fairbanks, 21st; Finn Taylor, 23rd; and Elias Pszwaro, 31st.
Ryan Christiansen also ran on the third place 4×100 meter relay team with Ben Rex, Finn Taylor and MaCoy Fairbanks. The Cook County B-Team of Eddie Larson, Graham Oberholtzer, Loki Larson and Talon DeBoer took ninth in the 4×100 meter relay.
Elias Pszwaro was the lone Viking entered in the 400-meter run. He placed 17th.
Adam Oberg, Grant Oberg, General Higgins, Eero Moody, and Sidney Litterst placed 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th, and 15th in the 800-meter run.
Brayden Schmidt was Cook County’s top finisher in the 1,600-meter run with 9th place. Tristan Surbaugh finished 12th, Merlin Higgins 14th, and Robert Rodriguez 22nd.
Keean Selin picked up some points in the 3200- meter run with a sixth-place finish. Andrew Hallberg placed 9th.
In the Men’s varsity 4×200 meter relay, the Cook County A team of Loki Larson, Georgi Dimitrov, Eddie Larson and Elias Pszwaro took 8th place. The B-Team of Talon DeBoer, General Higgins, Roland Stoffel, and Graham Oberholtzer placed tenth.
The Men’s 4×400 meter relay saw the Vikings take fifth. The relay runners were Ben Rex, Kaleb Berka, Brayden Schmidt and Isaac Schmidt.
A second place in the 4×800 meter relay netted the Vikings some excellent team points. Keean Selin, Brayden Schmidt, Isaac Schmidt and Adam Oberg combined for a time of 10:06.7. Cook County’s B-team consisting of Kaleb Berka, Tristan Surbaugh, Danny Berka and Andrew Hallberg, placed fifth in the relay.
Calvin Battees and Loki Larson placed 12th and 13th in the shotput. Arlo Christiansen placed 15th, Ben Rex 20th, Nico Battees 25th, and Roland Stoffel 30th in the shotput.
Calvin Battees finished 17th in the discus to lead Viking throwers. Other finishers in the discus were Arlo Christiansen, 20th, Loki Larson, 26th, Nico Battees, 29th, and Roland Stoffel, 30th.
Kaleb Berka was the team’s top long jumper. He placed 11th. Ryland Brown finished 17th, Eddie Larson 24th, and Elias Pszwaro was 26th.
Three Vikings competed in the triple jump. Kaleb Berka placed 9th, Ryland Brown 14th and Merlin Higgins finished 17th.
The Vikings didn’t have anyone enter the high jump, 110- or 300-meter hurdles.
Girls’ Results
Briana Monson placed 20th in the women’s 100- meter run. Molly LaVigne finished 26th, Genevieve Silence 29th, Kalina Dimitrova 31st, and Grace Blomberg 33rd.
Molly LaVigne led the Viking in the 200-meters with a 9th place, running 29.57. Sophia Sheehan placed 20th, Mary June Wharton 22nd, Kalina Dimitrova 23rd.
Mary June Wharton was the top Viking in the 400-meter run. Mary June placed 21st with Siena Woerheide 23rd, Sophia Lindstrom 24th and Grace Blomberg 25th.
The 800-meter run saw Emma Crook place 13th, Ayla Russell take 22nd, and Patience Siffereth 24th.
Anna Hay finished third in the 1600-meter run with a time of 6:07:36. Lexi Surbaugh took 6th place with a time of 6:24.07. Cece Chmelik finished in 9th with a time of 7:12.19.
No Vikings were entered in the 3200-meter run, high jump, 110-meter hurdles, or 300-meter hurdles.
The Vikings 4×100 meter relay team of Brianna Monson, Annabelle Silence, Genevieve Silence and Olivia Nesgoda placed 9th, and the Vikings 4×200 meter relay team made up of Olivia Nesgoda, Sophia Sheehan, Sophia Lindstrom and Siena Woerheide also placed 9th.
The 4×400 meter relay team of Molly LaVigne, Anna Hay, Brianna Monson, and Annabelle Silence finished in 8th place.
Picking up point in the 4×800 meter relay with a third place were Anna Hay, Lexi Surbaugh, Emma Crook and Cece Chmelik.
Cece Chmelik led the Viking in the shot-put with a 13th-place finish. Kalina Dimitrova placed 14th, Zoe Kacures 15th, and Patience Sifferath 24th.
Zoe Kacures placed 15th in the discuss. Kalina Dimitrova took 222nd and CeCe Chemilk finished 24th in the discus.
In the long jump competition Zoe Kacures placed 13th and Emma Crook placed 9th in the triple jump.
