The Miss North Shore contest, which ended in 1993, was a local competition with young women from Cook County taking part. The contest name is being revived by the Miss Minnesota Scholarship Program, which is announcing a “new” pageant Miss North Shore, in Two Harbors.
The Miss North Shore Pageant is a nonprofit subcommittee of the Two Harbors Area Chamber of Commerce Winter Frolic Committee. The executive director of the pageant is Vicky Louks of Two Harbors.
Miss North Shore is a closed pageant— contestants must be from the Two Harbors and neighboring areas and must be a high school graduate and between the ages of 17-24. The contestants are scored in five areas of competition: private interview; talent; swimsuit; evening gown; and on stage question. Applications for contestants are currently being accepted.
Confirmed judges for the pageant include: Miss Minnesota 1997 Jennifer Ostergaard; Congressman Jim Oberstar; radio personality Cathy Kates; Neil Aitking of Financial Network; and Rhonda Grussdendorf of Star Publishing.
Thenew Miss North Shore will receive a $1,000 scholarship and a host of other prizes. The pageant will be held at Two Harbors auditorium at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011. Tickets will be available in advance and at the door.
