As a people, believing we are created with the right to pursue happiness, we tend to create organizations and institutions in order to facilitate that pursuit. They may be religious, political, economic, educational, legal, and many other kinds. They are created by us for the good of “we the people.”
However, after some time, it often happens that our organizations and institutions cease to pursue the happiness for whom we created them. Instead they begin to pursue the happiness of the organization itself, the benefit of the institution itself.
Today we are witnessing this dire trend. The organizations and institutions we ourselves created and taught ourselves to trust in our pursuit of happiness can no longer be trusted. Yet, we must realize that at the bottom of all this lies the fact that we cannot – or do not trust ourselves!
