The Cook County Ridge Riders Annual Trout Derby held Saturday, March 7 on West Bearskin Lake was held on a glorious day and was a tremendous success.
The weather was warm and sunny, about 48 degrees F, with 90 fishermen entered and the fish complying, with several large lake trout pulled from the ice covered lake.
“We had an excellent day for the trout derby,” said Shele Toftey. “The weather was great and the fish were biting. I don’t remember when we have had a trout derby that was this nice.”
Seventeen fish were brought in to be weighed and the top 10 winners were announced.
Taking first place was Linda Peterson with her 13.56 pound lake trout. The following folks finished second through tenth place:
2nd Place: Roger Schoepflin 9.84 lbs.
3rd Place: Joey Pederson 8.61 lbs.
4th Place: Jordan Ekroot 3.94 lbs.
5th Place: Bryan Coe 3.88 lbs.
6th Place: Garrick T. 3.34 lbs.
7th Place: Adrianna Berglund 2.78 lbs.
8th Place: Chad Morawitz 2.74 lbs.
9th Place: Rusty Peterson 2.69 lbs.
10th Place: Henry Kettleson 2.33 lbs.
The trout derby was the final event of the season for the Ridge Riders, who use the funds earned from snowmobile races and the trout derby to maintain snowmobile trails and pay for club expenses.
