On Sunday August 9 starting at 10:30 a.m., a varied group of people will walk (or bike, drive, or rollerblade) from Grand Marais to Hovland. Why do such a “crazy” thing? Because long ago, the first pastors to bring regularly scheduled church services to Hovland walked that route once per month. As a result, in 1909, the congregation of Trinity Lutheran was formed from a merger of two small worship communities. The August 9 Walk-A-Thon honors the previous generations in preparation for Trinity’s Centennial Weekend on August 29th and 30th, and many other events are planned.
Walkers (bikers and rollerbladers) are accepting pledges and will use the money for the World Hunger Appeal and to decrease the Trinity parsonage mortgage.
If you are curious about joining in for all or part of the 18 miles (or pledging), or if you would like a schedule of Centennial events, call Trinity Lutheran at (218) 475- 2439.
There will be a “welcome to the end of the walk” party with root beer floats served at Trinity in Hovland starting at 5:30 p.m. (Rain date is scheduled for August 16th).
