This unusual greeting comes from the National Honor Society once again this Halloween night. While little goblins are out collecting candy, NHS members will be out collecting cans for the local food shelf.

For the past eight years, NHS’s “Trick or Can” event has helped to stock the food shelf with generous contributions from local residents. On last year’s Halloween night, nine NHS students collected 660 pounds of food. Impressive, yet it can be bettered.

If you are able to donate cans, nonperishables, or checks, NHS members will come to your door to collect them.

The Cook County Food Shelf is located in the First Congregational Church at Third Ave. West and Second Street. It is open 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. every Monday. There are also food distribution sites in Grand Portage and at Zoar Lutheran Church in Tofte.

For more information or to volunteer with the Cook County Food Shelf, contact Bill Lenz at (218) 387-9860.
